Tuomas Holopainen (born 25 December 1976 in Kitee, Finland) is the founder, keyboardist, and principal songwriter of Nightwish, one of the most successful symphonic metal bands in the world. He has written virtually all of the band's music across ten studio albums, shaping a sound that blends heavy metal with orchestral and cinematic elements. Alongside Nightwish, he co-founded the folk-influenced trio Auri with vocalist Johanna Kurkela and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley.
Auri released their third album 'III - Candles & Beginnings' on August 15, 2025, and embarked on their first-ever live European tour.
Holopainen was reported to be working on two new albums, according to an interview with Finnish newspaper Karjalainen.
Nightwish released their tenth studio album 'Yesterwynde' on September 20, 2024, produced and written by Holopainen, and then announced a touring hiatus expected to last two to three years.
Nightwish signed a new multi-album deal with Nuclear Blast Records, confirming the band's long-term future despite the touring break.
