Night of the Arts: Author Mirva Karkinen

Author Mirva Karkinen presents her debut novel Leviatan to the public for the first time in the reading room of Rikhardinkatu Library (3rd floor) from 5-6 PM. In the discussion, Karkinen explores the novel's themes, intentions, and creative process, and reads excerpts from the book.

Leviatan (Aviador 2026) tells the story of women waiting for a breakthrough. Before anything resolves, a person must stretch to their limits - and that's why the women's restrooms echo with sounds. The work addresses the position of modern women and the misogyny lurking in society's depths, but is above all a plea for empathy.

Mirva Karkinen (born 1994) is a Helsinki-based master's graduate in literature and philosophy whose research interests include literature, power, and gender. She has previously published feminist literary criticism and essays on the book industry.
