Duncan Butt Juvonen: The Sea, The Sea (Hall 1) and Emilia Pennanen: Maastatullut ja veteensyntynyt (Petrichor) (Hall 2)

Duncan Butt Juvonen's exhibition explores the passage of time, death, and decay. The images are distorted and muted - colours have been drained, faded, and worn away like an object washed ashore. The messages are incomplete, the information corrupted and interrupted. A deer smokes a pipe and gazes at the water. Against this deterioration, brightly coloured walls and black-and-white op art stripes create waves of colour in the eye where no colour exists.

Emilia Pennanen's exhibition is rooted in the experience of a place within which a twin flame pulses. The twin flame (twin flame/mirror self) is a myth of a single soul divided into two separate bodies. According to the original myth, humans were formed from one body with two heads, four arms, and four legs, until Zeus split them apart and each half was left to wander the earth seeking its missing counterpart. The exhibition consists of multimaterial photographic sculptures in which the perception of landscape and the physical and emotional experience of place transform into a new place - a kind of dreamscape or its opposite.
