French Craftsmanship Showcase

In honour of European Heritage Days, the French Institute in Finland presents a showcase of sustainable creation from France's National Centre for Craftsmanship. Inspired by vintage travel trunks, the exhibition offers a glimpse into French craft heritage and its future.

On display are centuries-old techniques, such as Sèvres porcelain and Gobelins tapestry looms, which continue to be used in the workshops of France's National Centre for Craftsmanship. Alongside traditional materials, the showcase features new and sustainable materials, including locally sourced wood, natural pigments, and recycled materials. The showcase itself is constructed from reclaimed materials by Atelier Emmaüs and also presents materials from the Laboratory of Sustainable Practices (Laboratoire des pratiques durables).

The exhibition is open 24.8.-19.9.2026 at the French Institute. Opening hours: Tue-Wed 10.00-18.00, Thu & Sat 10.00-14.00, Fri 10.00-17.00. Admission is free. Presentation texts are available in English and French.
