Liikkeellä in November - Michael Turinsky: Precarious Moves

How can one begin to move when the body has a fundamentally uncertain and vulnerable relationship to its surroundings?

Michael Turinsky returns to the Liikkeellä in November festival with his solo work Precarious Moves, continuing his investigation of choreographic forms of resistance. The work is both autobiographical and conceptual: it examines questions of movement and mobilization from the perspective of a physically disabled person - questions that are for Turinsky both deeply personal and collectively significant.

The work explores tensions between movement and environment, gesture and setting, and invites perception to open beyond commonly accepted notions of time and distance. It is ironic, intellectual, and playful, shifting between the organic and the organized - a searching movement in which the divergent body finds its choreographic environment.

The work is part of the Liikkeellä in November festival 5-15.11.2026. As part of the festival, Turinsky participates in an open discussion with a local artist at the Soup Talk Panel event on 13.11 at 12:00 at Caisa.

Michael Turinsky is a Vienna-based, physically disabled artist - choreographer, theorist, and curator. He holds an academic degree in philosophy from the University of Vienna and was introduced to the world of inclusive dance in 2006. Since then, he has questioned the concept of inclusivity and developed his own term "Crip Choreography" to describe his artistic practice, which addresses the body's particular, resistant materiality through processes of destabilizing and reorganizing movement forms dominated by control.

Precarious Moves received the prestigious Nestroy Award for best off-production in 2021. In 2023, Austria's Ministry of Culture awarded him the "Outstanding Artist" recognition.
