Insomnium is a Finnish melodic death metal band from Joensuu, formed in 1997. Their music weaves crushing heaviness with deeply melancholic melodies, drawing on themes of loss, nature and the passage of time. Albums such as 'Above the Weeping World' (2006), 'Winter's Gate' (2016) - which hit number one in Finland - and 'Anno 1696' (2023) have made them one of the most respected names in the genre worldwide. A tenth studio album is due in October 2026.
