Savoy & Helsinki Jazz ry: Eero Koivistoinen and Reiska Laine 80th Birthday Jubilee Concert

Saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen and drummer Reino "Reiska" Laine both turn 80 and celebrate their milestone birthdays with a concert at Savoy Theatre on October 28. The concert lasts approximately 2.5 hours including an intermission.

The first half features Reiska Laine's sextet: alongside Koivistoinen and Laine, the stage welcomes Jari Perkiömäki (saxophone), Mikko "Gunu" Karjalainen (trumpet), Olli Ahvenlahti (piano), and Filemon von Numers (double bass). The programme includes Koivistoinen's own compositions as well as works by Miles Davis and John Coltrane, while also celebrating their 100th anniversaries.

After the intermission, the Sibelius Academy Big Band takes the stage under the direction of Bianca Rantala. The ensemble performs Eero Koivistoinen compositions from different decades and his arrangement of John Coltrane's classic Equinox.

The ground floor is a K-18 alcohol service area. The balcony has no age restrictions and no alcohol service.
