Tuomari Nurmio (born Hannu Juhani Nurmio, 1950, Helsinki) is a Finnish rock singer-songwriter whose recording career stretches back to 1979. Over more than four decades he has released 19 studio albums - two of them certified gold in Finland - and his lyrics, laced with Helsinki street slang and arresting imagery, have left a permanent mark on the Finnish language itself. He is the only rock musician to have received the Eino Leino literary prize, and his early albums are widely regarded as cornerstones of Finnish popular music.
Nurmio released the double single 'Ave Maria Con Amor' together with rock veteran Remu Aaltonen and Kaihon Karavaani on 10 January 2025, with a limited 7" vinyl edition following in February.
A Tavastia concert scheduled for 18 December 2025 with Tuomari Nurmio & Luupäät was cancelled due to illness and rescheduled to 18 July 2026.
Nurmio publicly disclosed a prostate cancer diagnosis in an interview with Docrates cancer hospital in summer 2024.
Nurmio released 'Rajaseudun laki', his debut album with the new acoustic folk ensemble FOLX, featuring 14 tracks.
The soul-gospel album 'Believe It Or Not', recorded with Knucklebone Oscar, was released on 2 September 2022 on CD, vinyl and streaming platforms.
